Defense Research and Investigation

The Defense Research Group at Gallagher & Associates has been providing defense research and investigation services to the insurance industry since 1984. The following summarizes some of our services. References are available upon request.

SPECIALIZED FACT RESEARCH
Locate and obtain obscure, hard-to-find documents and information from U.S. EPA and other federal and state agencies, Congress, state and local libraries, government archives and trade associations. Retrieve public records on corporate, regulatory and economic issues.

TOXIC WASTE SITE INVESTIGATION
Research and investigation of public source documents to develop “expected and intended”, late notice, known loss and trigger defenses, past and expected future cleanup costs, and other insurance policy coverage issues. Identify and interview knowledgeable regulatory officials, nearby residents, former employees and other witnesses. Retrieve, compile and index site documents. Analyze and summarize source materials and provide detailed historical reports to assist in claims handling and litigation defense.

CORPORATE KNOWLEDGE INVESTIGATION
Thorough background investigation of polluting companies to determine and confirm corporate-level environmental knowledge, attitude and practices. Identify key corporate officials, publications and trade associations. Locate and retrieve corporate newsletters, periodicals and filings with EPA and Congress. Prepare comprehensive reports based on documentary evidence.

DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS/TOXIC TORTS
Research of computer databases, trade associations and journals, company publications, government agencies and court records to develop background data and historical knowledge as to defective and hazardous chemicals and other products, toxic tort and other complex claims.

DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT AND INDEXING
Compile, organize and index large volumes of documents and information onto inter-relational computer database. Provide storage and retrieval services.
